Mowatinoon (Citizens) is a Jordanian social networking platform, oriented to Civic Engagement, with aim to support democratic governance through political reform, human rights and active citizenship,

An online community that incorporates new ICT tools to interact over the internet and Mobile App
A potential lead -generation of local civic media prospects, run by Jordan Media Association, with aim of enhancing the role of civil society and media to effectively play their roles as conduits for increasing civic awareness, policy dialogue, and community engagement in democratic proces

This Action is initiated as part of Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Support to Civic Awareness and Engagement under the Programme” Support to Democratic Governance in Jordan”- Funded By European Union

Our target groups are civil society, the government, the parliament, youth/ universities & local media. They are stakeholders and direct beneficiaries from such an open air interaction, something they lacked all the time. Every citizen is considered stake holder in this idea of integrating journalism into the democratic process. The way we engages citizens ,inside and outside Amman, helps ensure that their needs and interests are taken into account in decision-making processes that affect their lives at both the national and local levels.
We see Social Media as increasingly taking the role of the fifth Estate, in sense that it can play a crucial role in supporting civic awareness and engagement. If assisted by new innovative communication formats like smart phone applications, then outreach and outcomes will be higher and quicker.
Mowatinoon coordinates with target groups and some other volunteering stake holders to promote informed discussions hold advocacy and mobilization social/ cultural events that have a tangible citizen connect added value. This is within context of an inclusive campaign that includes rural areas where local NGOs are always eager to speak over. Special attention is given to women &youth. This opens a no- cost door for the needed new generation of civil activists, and gives them the full capacity to share discussions on air, prove themselves and build their names to lead
Awareness literature about human &women rights will be available on the Mobile App and over web site. It is part of community awareness that helps to build civil society know-how in human rights-based approaches, access to information, participatory governance, and policy dialogue.

We compile out of all of these varied discussions, activities, first hand news items, features and reports to be published by other collaborating media outlets.
Evaluation reports, as we will be doing, are tools to give feedback on government performance to improve their policies and services, provide stronger incentives for governments to respond to citizens’ feedback.

Mowatinoon is meant to be an innovative mechanism to encourage / empower individuals and entities to engage and have their say, hopefully to give the creative solution that elevates citizens’ voices and gives government/parliament the capacity as well as the incentive to listen and respond.
This gives community engagement other than the ethical imperatives of democracy and promotion of a strong conception of citizenship, entrenching the concepts of culture democracy and civil education.
